Sunderland City Council and TV architect George Clarke’s educational charity MOBIE are launching a national design competition in partnership with the Confederation of Timber Industries (CTI).
It is hoped Riverside Sunderland – a mixed and vibrant community of 100 desirable homes, will redefine the city: transforming a spectacular site into a unique, carbon neutral urban quarter – an extraordinary place to live, work and play.
The competition is open to all built environment students from first to final year and 2020 graduates from UK universities. They will work together in teams to design: one 3 bed family home in detail and an indicative masterplan to include landscape and streetscape plans. Top entrants will be awarded cash prizes.
This is a great initiative to promote the use of timber in the built environment. And through TDCA's involvement we can advocate best practice in terms of quality materials and installation.
