Velux Windows UK Head Quarters
A creative use of Western red cedar cladding and shingles to reflect the Scandinavian heritage of Velux
This multi-functional building makes creative use of glulam and cladding to reflect the Scandinavian heritage of Velux. The glulam beams allow a large flexible two storey internal space to be created that serves as offices, showroom, conference and training centre.
On the southern elevation the glulam beams are curved and the external surface is clad in western red cedar shingles and extends down to ground level. The northern roof is a more conventional design clad in slate but also extends to ground level, enabling Velux windows of different sizes and designs to be demonstrated to best advantage.
The western and eastern elevations are vertical walls which have been clad in clear grade western red cedar boards fixed to battens over insulation. All of the timber used for the roof and walls is designed to weather to silver grey colour.
